According to Deep Fitness:
Sadly, medical professionals are yet to find a cure for colitis and therefore surgeons are left to deal with symptoms when they are otherwise impossible to treat. If surgery is unavoidable however, it is possible to reclaim a normal life depending on the extent of the surgery and how much of the intestines were removed.
An article in Revolution Health focuses on some of the problems for those with IBD:
Dr. Franklin noted that common concerns among IBD patients include fatigue, the cognitive effects of the disease, a sense of loss of control, a low body image, feeling of social isolation, feelings of being dirty and difficulty in adapting to life following ostomy surgery.
