Sleep Problems May Not Be Menopause
Filed in archive Sleep Disorders on May 31, 2007
If you're an older woman, you may be experiencing some problems sleeping, problems that you didn't have when you were younger. If you're in menopause, your doctor may decide that is the cause. In some cases, this is true. One cause of sleep disturbance is night sweats, as explained in my article on My Sleep Central.com:
One cause of night sweats or nocturnal hydrosis is menopause. Of course, if you are a man, this doesn't apply. And, believe it or not, it doesn't necessarily apply if you are a woman, either. There are many causes of night sweats.
There are also many causes of insomnia and a lot of the time, menopause has nothing to do with it. Health.am tells us:
Sleep problems - which, according to one recent survey, affect nearly half of all American women aged between 55 and 64 - are more to do with stress and other illnesses than any hormonal change.
