Menopause and High Blood Pressure
Filed in archive Menopause on April 12, 2007
menopause brings on all sorts of bodily changes and misery, not the least of which is hot flashes. Recent research has shown that those hot flashes may be connected to yet another problem - high blood pressure.
In an article in Forbes Magazine, we read of a study by Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City:
The study of 154 women -- ages 18 to 65 with a mean age of 46 -- found that the 51 women who reported having hot flashes had an age-adjusted mean systolic awake blood pressure of 141 and a mean systolic sleep blood pressure of 129, compared to 132 and 119, respectively, among women without hot flashes.
The Blood Pressure Blog warns:
Many people don't appreciate the danger of a condition that, if left untreated, can lead to a kidney failure, heart attack, or stroke. In fact, there are great numbers of people unaware of their high blood pressure and are walking around as if with a lethal time bomb counting down the time inside of them.
