Fat Scan for Obesity
Filed in archive Weight on March 26, 2007
For years people have searched for ways to determine whether or not they're Overweight. Does the scale lie? Can you "pinch an inch?" The Body Mass Index (BMI) tables showed promise, but recent research has determined that even that is in doubt.
An article in the BBC News tells us about the latest method to determine whether your body is normal. overweight or obese:
Scientists say they have developed a 3D scanner that can accurately determine if a person is truly obese.
Currently, doctors gauge fatness with a calculation of body mass index (BMI). But BMI is flawed - people with lots of muscle are considered overweight.
Instead of relying on weight and height measurements, as BMI does, the scan takes into account body shape and how much fat a person carries.
Is your BMI out of whack? Do you hit the gym every day or participate in other rigorous exercise? Tale heart. Maybe that isn't fat. It could be muscle, and remember, muscle weighs more than fat, but it looks a lot better!
