An article from Authentic Breathing Resources, published on PRLog, reports:
Dennis Lewis, the author of highly acclaimed books and CDs on the relationship of breathing to health,
points out that although chronic hyperventilation can be the result of underlying emotional or psychological problems, it can also be the result of bad breathing habits. One such habit is Mouth breathing, which releases huge quantities of carbon dioxide very quickly. It is very important, therefore to learn how to breathe mainly through your nose is the normal activities of your daily life.
Focal Point Yoga has some excellent techniques to help you learn the proper way to breath. On their web site, they cover:
................. seven pranayama techniques: Abdominal Breathing, Dirgha Pranayama, Ujjayi Pranayama, Nadi Shodhana, Kapalabhati, Breath of Fire, and Analoma Veloma. These are all used to achieve different results. The basic foundational breaths to master are Abdominal Breathing, Dirgha Pranayama, Ujjayi Pranayama and Nadi Shodhana. Until you master these techniques, do not try the other, more esoteric practices. These four lay the groundwork for the others, and are the most commonly used breaths in yoga. They are also very powerful breathing techniques, so gradually build your practice and follow the common sense guidelines below before trying these techniques.
