The American Heart Association (AHA) has announced updated guidelines that include new information for physicians on the use of aspirin for women of all ages, with an emphasis on aspirin's particularly important role for older women. The 2007 Guidelines for Preventing Cardiovascular Disease in Women were published recently (19 Feb) in a special women's health issue of Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association.
Here's some good (and tasty) news from Simple Thoughts Blog:
A few bits of dark chocolate a day can have the same benefit as aspirin in reducing blood clots and preventing heart attacks, researchers from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine concluded in a study of chocolate lovers.
The reason, apparently, is that both aspirin and chocolate contain a chemical that prevents blood clots forming. Hmm! Aspirin or rich, dark chocolate. Decisions, decisions.
